I Am Trash

An unflinching nosedive into darkest depths of humanity, or lack thereof

Three emotionally damaged brothers must deal with the aftermath of their father returning home from prison after serving time for sexual assault. Lee Sang-woo weaves between glimmers of hope and utterly uncompromising pitch black gloom in this gut-punching emotional drama.

Sang-woo has strived to achieve relative calm and civility at home with his brothers, but that is set to change when their sadistic father returns from prison after serving time for the sexual assault of an underage girl. Despite the victim’s father surveilling their home seeking bloody vengeance, Sang-woo’s father seems disturbingly keen to return to his life of misconduct, and further still bring his sons along for the depraved journey. Sang-woo must not only try to prevent his father, but ensure his brothers are not lured into degradation.

Uniformly compelling and disturbing, this is charged filmmaking at its most provocative and unflinching.
